Am I a "farm girl?"

Many times in my life people have commented that I look like I am from "up north". Once while walking through the mall I over heard an older gentlemen say "That there is a New York City girl!" Sorry to disappoint but I am North Carolina born and raised!

Honestly, I think I would be perfectly content rocking on the front porch of my little farm house. Ahem, the farm house I live in, in my mind! We actually live in a subdivision where every fourth house is exactly the same! We were lucky and got a corner lot so that gave us a little more yard. Our first spring here we dug up a nice chunk of land and made ourselves a garden. It has had good years and terrible years! The terrible years seem to be when I am prego...so you can guess to "tends" to it!

This spring we decided to make it a tad bigger. Then we decided to add in a few berry bushes and somehow we came to the conclusion it was a GREAT idea to buy four baby chickens! You have to understand, if I get something in my mind I will make it happen. And, I will do it well! I have done my research on raising chickens and decided on the best ones for "egg laying". We drove to a nearby town to the only place that could ensure us 4 female chicks! Could you imagine the neighbors response if one was a rooster! In all of my planning I kept telling myself that the kids would just LOVE the chicks!

For the most part the kids do love the baby chicks! I think the Bear would squeeze the life out of them! The Bug seems to like them more from a distance :) When the first time came for me to pick one up, I suddenly felt like I had made a big mistake! I could not do it! I was sweating and slightly creeped out. I had to give myself a pep talk; quietly because the kids were watching! Finally I just went for it...aaaahhhh, I shook off that "city girl" vibe!

Currently only 3 of our 4 chicks have been named - Daisy (the dominate one), Ginger, and Cindy after Cinderella. The Bug is suppose to name the 4th but has not decided on a name yet? What do you think?
This should be a fun little adventure. Hopfully we will get lots of yummy eggs from them over the next couple of years. Hopfully Ava, our dog, will make friends with them. And maybe one day they will make a yummy chicken dinner :) Happy Farming!

KONY 2012

This is the second thing this week I have come across about the children abducted and imprisoned in Uganda. Please take some time and watch this video. It is moving. I am not trying to start a debate, I just think it is moving and wanted to share. I also like that normal everyday people are making a difference!

Yesterday, we started a new dance class. It was the Bear's second attempt and the Bug's first. The time around things went much smoother than last time. I am not sure if it was because the class had a lot of the girls friends, that they were in it together, or the fact that Mommy is the teacher! Yep, Mommy is dusting off her dance skills and hoping to spark a love for dance in these sweet little faces!

We currently have 12 girls in the class! They did amazingly well for the class to be made up primarily by 2 year olds! There are 2 spots left in the 2 yr old class and if anyone wants to start a 4/5 yr old class please contact me!

There is something so sweet about a little girl dressed for dance class!

These two were working the camera for sure!

A New Record...

This week we set a new record in our house, I am not sure if I am proud of this record but, it is a record! We made 5 trips to the pediatricians office this week! Count them .....FIVE!!!! We went on Monday for Colt's 7 month well visit and it was quick and painless! We went back on Wednesday because the Bug had some pretty nasty zit/boil type things on her legs. And being that I didn't want her to hate me when she is a teenager trying to wear shorts....I took her in!

I am SOOOOOO thankful I did because, after two trips to the DR, we found out it was MRSA. I have learned far more than I probably need to know about MRSA but, thankfully she is doing much better. Wednesday - Friday were pretty crazy for us. The Bug started her first round of meds Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning her legs were worse. So, back to the DR we went (Trip # 4). They did a CBC and determined that the first round of meds were not working. We left with a new prescription and the knowledge that if this did not work then we were off to the hospital! We started the second round Thursday afternoon and it must taste nasty because the poor girl gags every time I give it to her!

I will spare you the details of what her legs looked like but, just so you know the seriousness of this...one place on her leg was a littler larger than a golf ball. It caused the front of her knee to swell and made her walk with a limp. My neighbor and old friend stopped by to pray for Lily Bug Thursday afternoon and I wish I had captured the moment on my camera! Heather came in kneeled in front of Lily and explained, "I am going to do what the Bible says and lay hands on you and pray to ask Jesus to heal you. Is that ok, honey?" Lily, "Yes" and she closed her little sweet eyes! This moment touched me for two reasons, 1) Heather was the one who helped me lay a foundation in my life when I gave my life to Christ 12 years ago. When Heather and I met we were not married and had no kids. She has been a huge part of my walk with Christ and here she was helping my child walk in Christ! Secondly, it was the first time someone other than family had prayed with/for Lily.

Friday morning we ran back over to the DR to do another CBC to determine if we are in the clear of a hospital stay! And, we were!!! The Bug is doing much better and her legs are clearing up! Thankfully my hubby had mercy on me and took Colt and the Bear to his parents house for the weekend. Lily and I enjoyed a much need quite weekend at home!
